2023 was a great year for the community of Listuguj!  Many great events were held, and many achievements were celebrated. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Listuguj’s Deven Condo-Mitchell and Gesgapegiag’s Amanda Larocque on competing in The Amazing Race Canada. It was a pleasure watching them come in fourth place and making their communities proud! We announced the Listuguj Wellness Renewal Initiative focusing on bringing wellness back to the community. We teamed up with Listutguj Community Health Services and kicked it off with an incredibly successful Wellness Walk in November.  We lost several community members in 2023. I offer my condolences to everyone who has been impacted by these losses in the community. As always through difficult times, Listuguj bands together and helps one another heal. Here’s to a bright 2024! On behalf of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government’s Chief and Council, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

October is Mi’gmaw History Month, and it is a great time to reflect on what it means to be Mi’gmaq. As we are wrapping up our fall lobster season and moving into hunting season, I’d like to remind community members of the importance of asserting our rights as Mi’gmaw to a moderate livelihood. However, hunting is not only a way of providing for our family and community but also an important cultural tie to our ancestors. Mi’gmaq hunters should always show respect for the sacrifice the t’iam makes.

I’d like to thank and acknowledge everyone who does their part by sharing their traditional knowledge. By doing so, you are keeping our language and culture alive in the community. Thank you to the hunters and fishers for a safe, and prosperous season.

At the end of July, I was presented with a traditional headdress made by Claudia Gray, Pernell Wysote, and Oakley Rain Wysote Gray. I would like to thank them for this kind gesture, and for all the hard work that went into making it. With Summer coming to an end and the Fall months approaching, just a reminder to please be considerate of students returning to school in the community. On behalf of Chief and Council, we hope you all had a memorable Summer with your family and friends.

On June 11th, we honored and acknowledged the events that took place in 1981 that strengthened our community. It was great to see so many people out for our Migwite’tm 81 Commemoration event. Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who made this meaningful event possible.

On behalf of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government, congratulations to our Listuguj graduates. Whether you graduated high school, grade 8, or Nursery, we are very proud of your accomplishments, and can’t wait to see what is in store for the future.

Spring has sprung in Listuguj! Even though we had a tame winter, we welcome the warm weather and sunshine. This month, our fishers departed for the 2023 crab fishery season. The Fisheries Send-Off Ceremony was a special event that allowed community members to express gratitude for the hard work done by the fishermen and fisherwomen. On behalf of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government, we wish them a safe and prosperous season. Their service and contribution to the community are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed.  Wela’lieg usgewinu’g
