Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – January 2025

Pusu’l Puna’ne!

For 2025, I encourage you to look after one another, and yourselves. Be sure to check in on your family during these cold winter months, especially our Elders in the community.  Like every year, there are plenty of events to look forward to in 2025! Be sure to keep an eye on all Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government social media channels for information on upcoming events throughout the year! Chief and Council also strive to keep you informed of developments and projects throughout the year.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – December 2024

I’d like to take this time to thank everyone in the community of Listuguj for a wonderful 2024! We had several great events throughout the year – Graduation ceremonies, Migwite’tm, our annual Pow Wow, the grand opening of the new police station, and much more! It’s a pleasure seeing everyone out and taking part in these events and taking in the beauty of Listuguj. I’d also like to acknowledge all our community members we lost over the year. I offer my sincere condolences to everyone affected by these losses. Our community is resilient, and I know 2025 will be a great year. The Listuguj Chief and Council wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – November 2024

I would like to thank everyone in the community who voted in the 2024 elections. Our administration has eight returning councilors from last term, and 4 new councilors.  I would like to welcome our new councilors, Christie Caplin, Tanner Isaac, and Macy Metallic, and a returning councilor, Chris Wysote.  I am looking forward to working with council and continue to achieve progress in our beautiful community of Listuguj. Wela’lioq for your support!

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – August 2024

I’d like to take this time to thank the Listuguj Pow Wow Committee for putting on an incredible Pow Wow earlier this month! We were faced with challenges from Mother Nature, and we overcame them with the help and hospitality of our people in the community. Thank you again to the Pow Wow Committee, emergency crews, and community members.  I’d like to remind everyone that school is starting back up soon. Please be cautious and courteous to school buses and children.  Although Summer is slowly coming to an end, but we still have plenty of time to enjoy our beautiful community and its surroundings.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – July 2024

The Summer months have been busy here in Listuguj! We’re keeping busy with several events and happenings in the area. Embracing the sunshine, the water, and taking in our beautiful territory. Our next big event is the Listuguj Pow Wow that is happening August 3rd and 4th. Thank you to the Pow Wow committee for their hard work on making this once again another unforgettable Pow Wow season!

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to everyone going through the loss of family members and loved ones. Our community has been hit hard with losses recently.  Please know that I am thinking of our community members during this difficult time.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – June 2024

June has been a busy month for the community!  On June 11th, Listuguj held its annual Migwite’tm 81 commemorative event. We take this day to reflect back on the salmon raids of 1981 and how the events that unfolded strengthened our community. Thank you to everyone who organized the event and those who participated in the walk. Congratulations to all our graduates from Head Start, Nursery, grade 4 Mi’gmaq Immersion, Grade 8, high school, and those completing post-secondary programs and degrees. I am very proud of you, and so is your community. Lastly, I would like to give my sincere condolences to the families who are grieving over the loss of their loved ones. I wish you all strength and support through these difficult times.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – May 2024

This month we celebrated Mother’s Day. I would just like to take this time to wish all the mothers in the community a Happy Mother’s Day! A mother’s hard work, strength, and support do not go unnoticed.   With the weather getting warmer, the number of pedestrians also increases. I would like to remind the community to please drive with caution and safety and be mindful of our community members especially our Elders, and children.  I look forward to all the events happening this Summer. Stay tuned for announcements on upcoming events happening in our area!

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – April 2024

April was a great month. We had some sunshine and had some great events happen in the community. It was great to meet with Senator PJ Prosper, and the Director of Parliamentary Affairs, Claudine Santos, along with the MMS team earlier this month. I was able to speak on some concerns and issues in the community and appreciated the Senator’s feedback and information on resources available to us.

It is great to see so many Capital & Infrastructure projects underway. These new projects are long-awaited and will be a great addition to Listuguj.

I would like to take this time to offer my condolences to families in the community who lost loved ones recently. I wish you all strength during these difficult times.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – March 2024

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who made the Wellness Symposium a success on February 21st and 22nd.  Thank you to all the presenters and guest speakers, and the Listuguj Wellness Renewal Initiative. The event was very informative and an important step to help our community achieve wellness and positive change.

We got a taste of spring recently, but there is still plenty of winter left. Please continue to be vigilant and safe when it comes to winter road conditions.

Chief’s Corner with Chief Scott Martin – February 2024

With our fiscal year coming to an end, we are very happy with the progress Listuguj has made in 2023.  A major project that is happening right now in the community is the new Police Station on the 132 Highway. There was a call for tender that was issued in March 2023 for the construction of the building, and since then things have been moving along smoothly and efficiently.  The new Police Station will be bigger, and more accommodating to the staff and community members. It is set to open in late fall 2024. Thank you to everyone who is working hard on this project.
