Culture Day at AGS
The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School held a seasonal Culture Day on Sept. 14.
Qospem Family Day
On July 1st, the Listuguj Community Health Services hosted their 7th Annual Family Day.
In 2008 the Qospem Family Day was privately funded, and a group was created to fundraise for the event. In 2010 the event was brought into the Listuguj Crisis & Life Promotion program to secure funding from year to year.
In the beginning, it wasn’t easy to have a Family Day. It required volunteers to help with fundraising and the event itself. In 2010, when The Listuguj Community Health Services began to host the event, it ensured it would take place each year on Canada Day.
This year it ran from 11 A.M until 1 A.M. The weather was the perfect for being outside. Workers from the Listuguj Youth and Family Center were present, and brought canoes and kayaks for anyone wanting to go on the lake. They provided supervision for swimming around the wharf as well.
“All the workers there have been Water Safety Certified,” said Corey Metallic. “So that’s a relief for me.”
Hotdogs and Hamburgers were cooked throughout the day with pop and water available. Attendance was estimated to be roughly 120, with more arriving later.
It’s the help of volunteers, community programs and organizers that makes this possible each year.

The Diamonds and Pearls Mother’s Day Social
The Diamonds and Pearls Mother’s Day Social was held Saturday, May 7th, at the Listuguj Community Development Center (Bingo Hall). Doors opened at 5 p.m and supper, which consisted of chicken, rice vegetables and salads (made by Elders Jean Martin and Donna Wysote) was served at 5:30 p.m.
Patty Martin was the Master of Ceremonies. The fundraiser event’s agenda was a mix of live performances, video sketches, door prizes as well as a fundraiser basket. Guest singer ‘Paul Jenson’ was also in attendance.
The Diamonds and Pearls Mother’s Day Social event made proceeds amounting $5,000.00; which was divided between the Elder’s trip to St Anne De Beaupre and The Veteran’s Lodge. ($2,500.00 Each) A gift basket was also raffled during the night to raise funds for Carter Cyr. Proceeds for Carter amounted to $1,020.00, and an additional S2,000 was donated from the St Anne’s Committee and Tina Barnaby. St Anne’s also donated S1,500 to Zaccari Barnaby.
All in all it we hope it was a memorable event for the mothers, the organizers are glad to have raised proceeds for the community.
